| Bio: | I am Danny, your tour guide; LudwigVan is just my nom de guerre. I’m a lifelong resident of the Great State of Texas (which I think is our official name now) and currently live in Austin, the Keep Austin Weird City. One of our most prominent political figures and cultural icons is a homeless man in drag.
You’ve come across my blog. (We call it a LiveJournal here, but just pretend it’s a blog.) I do talk about politics some, but we have too many political blogs in the first place, so I just talk about miscellaneous things that interest me. A lot of it is stuff I deal with in real life, being a currently out-of-work musician in the “Live Music Capital of the World”.
My main musical genre is progressive rock, classic and modern, but I mine for ideas from everything else: classical, jazz, blues, R&B, country (especially bluegrass), Latin, Middle Eastern, reggae and whatnot. I specialize in experimental theory, especially microtonalism; I specialize in 72-tone equal temperament (see also this and that). I play bass, keyboards and other music, and I also sing. I’m not in a band right now, but I’m trying to get some music written and recorded. Maybe someday I’ll finish college and write that symphony and/or book.
I am a member of the Democratic Party, and what could be called a Libertarian Democrat, or "Liberaltarian" (see also). Or just call me a moderate if it's easier for you. I support Sen. Barack Obama for President.
I’m also living with bipolar disorder and possibly multiple sclerosis. I wish they’d move out. I’m on disability, but I work a few hours here and there when I’m able.
My other interests are languages (I’ve studied French, Spanish, Italian, German, Russian, Arabic, Persian, Hindi, Turkish, Chinese and a few others, none of which I speak fluently), video games, food, sports, and being an all-purpose smartass. I’m also still trying to write that sci-fi/fantasy novel I keep talking about. |
